Angela Baber joined the TIES team in 2016. She leads the LEAD STEM leadership development program for STEM Learning Ecosystem leaders and supports STEM Learning Ecosystems as a Technical Assistance Lead. Before joining TIES, she was the STEM Director at The Colorado Education Initiative from 2011 until 2017 where she launched the Colorado STEM partnership – a statewide effort to advance STEM learning and outcomes. In this role, she collaborated with the Governor’s office, the Colorado Department of Education, the Colorado Department of Higher Education, and many other state and corporate organizations to advance a statewide STEM agenda. This partnership focused on closing the opportunity gap through equity and excellence in STEM education so that all students are prepared with the skills they need to succeed in college, career, and life.

“TIES has a unique ability to stay just ahead of the curve in education partnerships and innovations.

Before joining CEI, Angela worked for the Washington, D.C.-based National Governors Association where she collaborated with governors and their key policy staff to develop innovative policy solutions to some of today’s most pressing public policy issues. Specifically, she led the organization’s STEM efforts and managed a multimillion dollar cross-state, multiphase initiative to increase the college and workforce readiness of students and adults. Previously she investigated educator effectiveness research and policies from across the country at the Education Commission of the States, and managed a National Science Foundation-funded STEM teacher preparation program at the University of Colorado–Boulder. Her educational background is in astrophysics through the University of Colorado at Boulder.

More About Me

I Bet You Didn’t Know

  • When not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends in Colorado.

What I Love About My Job

  • I love working at TIES because TIES brings together the most passionate and bright partners who believe that together we can do something better than we could ever do alone.

A Transforming Moment

  • TIES has a unique ability to stay just ahead of the curve in education partnerships and innovations. My favorite TIES transformation is ongoing – it’s the growing understanding that it takes all kinds of partners in a community to support learning. There is no better example than the nearly 60 communities who have cross-sector partners all coming together to advance STEM learning and outcomes across the country and the world.
