REHABFAB

Re-Imagining Digital Fabrication Labs & Makerspaces

Let’s face it…

Technology is constantly changing and evolving and you want your Fab Lab or Makerspace to keep pace with everything from Artificial Intelligence to Quantum Computing.

How?

Your Fab Lab can be synced to meet and even anticipate new technologies, ensuring that you are offering the right tools for meaningful, relevant and immersive experiences with the most up-to-date technologies and processes.

This syncing process involves a little art, a little engineering and a lot of creative thinking. (And speaking of creative thinking, that’s exactly what Fab Labs and Makerspaces must foster so that the next generation is equipped to solve the many grand challenges facing our globe.)

If we want the users to harness  innovative thinking, it’s a must that we need to do the same and offer a Fab Lab or Makerspace that is beyond cool. As the saying goes, “We want to practice what we preach and teach.”.”

Facing digital challenges

TIES is Ready

TIES is committed to helping you re-imagine your current Fab Lab or Makerspace,  from the perspective of equipment and design software, teaching and learning pedagogies and alignment to workforce needs of today and tomorrow.

Our Digital Fabrication Consultants will study what you have, how it is being used and then compile an assessment for how your Fab Lab or Makerspace can keep pace with our ever-changing world.

The Process…

STEP 1 - Powering Up.

TIES’ Digital Fabrication Consultants will ask you a series of questions, including compiling usage and data snapshots. The Digital Fabrication Consultants will also review your STEM programming offered in the lab.

STEP 2 - In-Person Review.

TIES Digital Fabrication Consultants will then spend a day visiting your Fab Lab or Makerspace. The day will include an assessment of the existing equipment and software and discussions about possible upgrades and identification of possible funding sources for upgrades.

STEP 3 - Recommendations

Soon after the visit, TIES will compile and share a report of recommendations for reimagining the FabLab or MakerSpace, developed in accordance with identified budgets and goals.

STEP 4 - Implementation - Optional

TIES is happy to partner with you for implementing any of the recommendations offered in STEP 3.

Resources & This Unique Moment

Federal ESSR dollars can be used for accelerating learning and reimagining Fab Labs and Makerspaces are an ideal use for those funds.

TIES’ APPROACH

TIES recognizes two primary approaches to Digital Fabrication Lab and Makerspace upgrades.  One or a combination of both approaches may be used, and will be customized to your specific needs:

  • Vertical Growth (incorporating upgraded and/or advanced fabrication technologies)

Examples include:

  • Upgraded Laser Cutters (higher wattage, different type: ex Co2 vs Fiber…etc.)
  • Advanced 3d Printers and Scanners
  • 5-axis CNC Mills
  • Robotic Arms
  • Arduino Microcontrollers
  • Raspberry Pi Technology
  • Horizontal Expansion (incorporating other types of technologies that pair with Maker /Digital Fabrication technologies)

Examples include:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Immersive Media- AR/VR/XR
  • Biometrics & Environmental Metrics
  • Physical Computing & Robotics

COSTS

Initial One-Day Consultation – $3,750 plus costs of  travel to your site.

Follow-on Consultation can include procurement recommendations, software and hardware installation, and educator professional development – Cost will be determined on a case-by-case-basis.

Schools/School Districts will be responsible for procuring their own equipment and software for their Digital Fabrication Lab/Makerspace.
